the first release on project squared in a year, *make your mess* is a three track ep by melbournes craig mcwhinney. craig has been making music for years and releasing since the late 2000s on melbourne labels such as pinksilver, melbourne deepcast and his own haul music, also on labels based further afield such as brendon moellers steadfast and speedy js electric deluxe. craigs music is techno, but it isnt preoccupied with the 4/4, employing broken, swung and rolling drum patterns. his tracks often include melodic and harmonic elements and effects reminiscent of dub techno but without conforming to the pastiche template of the sub-genre. the make your mess ep is composed of the core title track and two additional tracks that arose as interpretations and variations on the initial production: *provocation is an excuse* is more furious and loud, *disengage* is more restrained. all three are around 125 bpm and were produced in the space of a month between september and october 2012.

like the satisfying first sip of soda water spritz, roland tings debut ep, *milky way*, bubbles, barms, and beads through your body. roland tings is rohan newman, a melbourne producer who, like recent rubies holy balm, forces, and canyons, proves there is just more and more greatness behind the great and powerful oz. melodic acid trips doused with swish-ticky-booms, like a rubber ball in space with endless bump and bounce. sweet off his japanese jaunt, speeding things down with sapphire slows shows, newmans taste is pure effervescence and buoyancy. but he has got a percussive stickiness as well, a vim/vigor that raps and rips through trax touch-ups and echo-plexes. not the nineties but the none-ties – no glimmer glam, or sampladelic vocal vacations, or happy house heartbeats. he ends the creamy *milky way* with a brilliantly wonky theme that springs like a wind-up toy gone loose. roland tings, dings, and zings.

pit spector comes back with a second solo ep on minibar. the first one is amazing, the second one is too. working for years on various musical projects (antislash, avas verden, cellule eat, radiozerozero), pit presents a really personal release witnessing his work in studio. the results are mental and dancy tracks mixing instruments and machines, space vocals and weird samples. completely involved in parisian electronic scene, pit switch between his work at zerozerobar and producing music.

danny wolfers wears many hats: jackmaster corky, trackman lafonte & bonquiqui, legowelt... nacho patrol is dannys travels towards african space travel. where earlier nacho patrol records spent time exploring cosmic ethiopia, this current incarnation adds a more sci-fi element to the mix, taking influences from chicago house to sun city girls, this is purely original sounds from one of the best producers out there.
